After watching the trailer of Sitaare Zameen Par, I instantly thought Aamir Khan is going to rock it with this movie. However, what piqued my curiosity was to see the comment section where a few pointed out that the actor-producer has again made a remake ¬¬¬- this time of the 2018 Spanish film “Champions”!
While his last two films were duds at the box office, particularly Laal Singh Chaddha, an official remake of the beautiful Hollywood movie, Forrest Gump, which meandered due to his histrionics.
So, the next thing was to find the Spanish film online. Obviously, YouTube is the first stop. There I found out this Spanish film has been remade in many languages, but sadly, couldn’t locate the movie. I sought help from my sophisticated colleague who directed me toward a website with rich content in high quality. There I saw the original version.
And man, Aamir Khan has chosen a gem of a movie.
The original movie is not didactic about the subject of intellectual disability, and it seems Sitaare Zameen Par has followed it. The latter film will move people with ladles of laughter. It is a sure shot hit the way the trailer has come out. And Aamir Khan’s performance will be a talking point.
Unlike Taare Zameen Par, where the actor comes in the latter half of the movie this film revolves around him. It is after many decades one gets to see him as a brash and bratty character. The last film where he played such a character was Dil Chahata hai.
In Bollywood only a few films have a recall value, Sitaare Zameen Par looks like one such rare film. Post pandemic the Hindi film industry is struggling to get people inside the cinema halls, particularly the family audience and women. This film may help in getting families to nearby cinemas.
It has been 20 years since I watched any movie in cinema. Looking forward to watching this heartwarming movie about people with intellectual disability.
